Restorers of Mount Carmel

You can become a member of the Restorers and help support the sisters while they support the world with prayer. Members benefit by sharing in all the Masses offered by the Chaplain on pilgrimages.

Secular Order of Carmel

Once referred to as The Third Order, the Secular Order of Carmel is made up of lay people who wish to participate in Carmelite spirituality as married and single Catholics. They have a structured community that meets monthly, follows the Carmelite Rule according to their state in life, has its own Constitutions, and makes promises instead of vows.

The Carmel of Port Tobacco is blessed to have two groups of Seculars. The Community of Saint Joseph meets here on the third Sunday of the month and the Community of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on the Saturday preceding. Both groups begin with Mass at 8:00 a.m., followed by prayer, breakfast, talks and instructions.

The members of our Secular groups support us generously, both financially and by giving witness to the universal appeal of Carmelite spirituality. New members are most welcome.

One Hundred Women of Carmel

One Hundred Women of Carmel gathers women who feel drawn to a quiet, steady life of prayer, simplicity, and service within the Carmelite tradition.

Begun as a way to tap into a volunteer pool, One Women of Carmel raises funds for our monastery through creative initiatives. More recently, they have had great success with Teas at Brent’s Landing, the site of the Pier where our first nuns ended their voyage from Europe in 1790. The Pier and Brent House are no longer standing, but the property's current owners, Sherri and Larry Sanders, graciously host the annual event in their modern home on the water.

As a member of One Hundred Women of Carmel, I understand that there are no formal meetings. I am available to help where and when I can at events benefiting the Carmelite Monastery. My phone number and address are below. Please keep me informed of the needs of the sisters and the benefits being planned during the coming year. If I am unable to meet my pledge in the coming year, I still want to give in-kind services (i.e., help with mailings, contacting sponsors, running errands, etc.)

Membership in One Women of Carmel requires only an annual fee of – you guessed it – $100.
